Root Canal Therapy in Albany

Root Canal Treatment Step by Step
A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is soft tissue called dental pulp. The pulp is a collection of connective tissue, blood vessels, nerve fibers, and other cells that help to build the surrounding tooth during childhood. Once the tooth is fully mature, the pulp has no significant function.
If this pulp becomes inflamed for infected, pain and swelling may develop. Symptoms may appear as visible swelling, sensitivity to temperature, tenderness to biting, or pain in the tooth and/or jaw. If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) to eliminate the diseased pulp.
After completely numbing your tooth, Dr. Aibel or Dr. Moshman gently removes the inflamed or infected pulp from inside of the roots, carefully cleans and shapes the center space in the root, and then seals the space. After the procedure, you will return to your dentist who will place a crown or other restoration on the tooth in order to protect and restore it to full function. Your tooth will continue to function like any other tooth.
Root canal treatment is usually completed in one visit, however, multiple visits may be needed depending on the complexity of the treatment and the nature of the pathology. Success for this type of treatment is extremely high. If Drs. Aibel or Moshman determines that your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment.
